OMAHA, Neb., Monday, Dec. 16, 2024 – Scooter’s Coffee partnered with Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) to bring the joy of reading to elementary students last week. Joe Thornton, CEO of Scooter’s Coffee, visited a Dallas area elementary school Friday to both share his love of books and the importance of reading with students.
According to RIF, 25 million children in the United States are unable to read proficiently, and 1 in 3 children entering kindergarten do not have the basic skills needed to learn how to read. RIF is one of the nation’s leading children’s literacy nonprofits focused on dedicated programs and resources to tackle the nation’s literacy crisis.
Thornton visited Caroll Elementary School in Frisco, Texas, as part of Reading Is Fundamental’s “Books for Ownership” program. After Thornton read aloud to students who attended, each student left the book celebration event with three new books of their choice to keep and read with their families.

The drive-thru specialty coffee company presented checks for $10,000 to both the Phoenix Children’s Foundation in Phoenix, Ariz. as well as Children’s Nebraska in Omaha, Neb. as part of events held at each hospital to bring the magic and adventure of CANDY LAND to patients and their families. The board game was originally created in 1949 to entertain children who were hospitalized with polio. Scooter’s Coffee also donated copies of the CANDY LAND board game to families at each hospital.

Bowl game enters eighth year at Toyota Stadium
FRISCO, TEXAS – #25 Memphis (10-2), representing the American Athletic Conference and West Virginia (6-6), representing the Big 12 Conference, will meet in the 2024 Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 8 p.m. CT at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. The game will air on ESPN and will simulcast on ESPN+, the leading sports streaming service.

Scooter’s Coffee is making a big impact in the search for a cure through a $249,262 donation to The Pink Agenda, a nonprofit committed to raising funding for breast cancer research and care, as well as awareness of the disease among young professionals.
A check was recently presented to representatives from The Pink Agenda at their headquarters in New York. From Sept. 27 to Oct. 31, Scooter’s Coffee customers nationwide purchased more than 280,000 Courage Cookies and more than 38,000 Courage Quenchers – all with 20% of the proceeds going directly to the cause. Customers could also make a donation without a purchase.
